Sioux Falls, SD – Trevor Zuehlke, a high school football player from Britton-Hecla who sustained a severe brain injury during a game in 2019, has tragically passed away. He was just 21 years old. Trevor’s passing was confirmed on Thursday, August 8, 2024, after he suffered a massive seizure that led to his hospitalization at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Trevor’s father, Kurt Zuehlke, expressed the deep sorrow the family is feeling, stating, "It is with extremely heavy hearts that we write this. Trevor’s soul has passed on to heaven this morning after nearly five years of numerous struggles and battles." Despite his long fight following the injury, Trevor is now "at complete peace with his loved ones in heaven," according to Kurt.
The community has been deeply affected by Trevor’s passing. On Facebook, many shared their condolences and memories. Lora Reed-Trautman posted, "Prayers for the family," while Claudia Tofte echoed similar sentiments with a simple "Prayers!"
