Urgent Search Underway in Roscoe, Illinois, for Missing 76-Year-Old Gilbert Wierschke, Who Suffers from Alzheimer’s

Roscoe, Illinois – The search continues for 76-year-old Gilbert Wierschke, who has been missing since Monday evening, August 12, 2024. Gilbert, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, was last seen around 7:45 p.m. near the 10000 block of Marblewing Road in Roscoe, Illinois. He was wearing a blue Chicago Cubs T-shirt, blue jeans, a black baseball cap, black tennis shoes, and glasses.

The Roscoe Police Department, in collaboration with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, is asking the public for assistance in locating Gilbert. His condition may cause him to appear confused or disoriented, increasing the urgency of the search. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 815-282-2600.

Community members have expressed their concern on social media, with many hoping for Gilbert’s safe return. Lindsey Leombruni posted on Facebook, "Sad I hope he’s found safe!" adding to the community’s sense of worry. Eddie Kaczmarek, an employee at MOD Pizza in Machesney Park, shared that Gilbert frequently visited the restaurant, often accompanied by a few ladies. "I will let my staff know about his disappearance," Eddie commented, offering to assist in the search.

Further discussions have taken place online, with Helen Cowell-Crary suggesting, "Does MOD Pizza have security footage… maybe share that with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office." Eddie Kaczmarek responded, confirming that the last time his staff saw Gilbert was on Sunday, August 11th. Another concerned individual, Jenn Zitzke, suggested, "Might be a good idea to have police talk to your staff."

As the search intensifies, the Roscoe community remains hopeful for Gilbert’s safe return. Authorities and locals continue to collaborate in this urgent effort, and all eyes are on Roscoe as they await news of Gilbert’s whereabouts.
