Verona, Wisconsin – The community is in mourning following the unexpected passing of Casey Eugene Peterson, who died on his 35th birthday, Saturday, August 17, 2024. Known for his love of the outdoors, dedication to his family, and remarkable skills as both an electrician and automotive technician, Casey’s death has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on August 17, 1989, in Madison, Casey was the beloved son of Keith and Nancy Peterson. From an early age, he was deeply involved in his family’s business, Peterson Home Improvement, where he began working at just eight years old. This early start fostered a strong work ethic and a wide range of practical skills that he carried with him throughout his life.
Casey graduated from high school in 2007 and went on to earn an associate degree in automotive technology from Madison Area Technical College in 2009. His career in the Madison area was marked by versatility and dedication, as he worked as both an electrician and an automotive technician.
Beyond his professional life, Casey was known for his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. He was an avid hiker and kayaker, always seeking out new challenges. One of his proudest achievements was recently conquering The Incline in Manitou Springs, Colorado, where he and his nephew, Owen, hiked 2,744 steps and ascended 2,000 feet in elevation in under a mile—a testament to his physical endurance and determination.
Casey’s commitment to personal growth was also evident in his dedication to martial arts, earning a black belt in karate after years of rigorous training. His vibrant personality was further highlighted by his love for movies, particularly his ability to recall and recite movie quotes, often entertaining those around him with his impressions of actors like Bill Murray and Adam Sandler. Live music and comedy shows were among his favorite pastimes, adding to the joy he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his parents, Keith and Nancy Peterson; his brother, Ryan Peterson, and his wife Brie; his sister, Ashley Ernzen, and her husband Joel; his paternal grandfather, Donald Peterson; two nieces, Kalise and Hailee, his nephew, Owen; his significant other, Jennifer Moon; and his beloved dog, Gabby. Casey was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Lorraine Peterson, and his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Sharon Kiolbasa.
A visitation will be held at Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral and Cremation Care on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at the funeral home’s website.
