Victoria Atkins Found Safe After Being Missing in Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Victoria Atkins, Yakima, Washington – Victoria Atkins, a 58-year-old Native American woman from the Yakima area, has been found and is being transported to seek medical attention. Atkins, who went missing on August 3, 2024, while camping in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, was located after an extensive search effort coordinated by the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Atkins was camping with two friends near the Sawtooth Berry Fields. She did not return to the camp at a pre-arranged time on August 3, prompting her friends to search for her throughout the day and into the next. Unable to locate her, they reported her missing on August 5 upon returning to the Yakima area.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Coordinators initiated a search on August 6, employing fixed-wing aircraft, drones, F.L.I.R., and ground searchers. Despite these efforts, Atkins remained missing until she was recently found.

Rachel Moses shared her relief on Facebook, stating, "Thankfully she has been found!" Tsi Frank echoed this sentiment, "Such good news!! Thank you so much for sharing the good news." Other community members expressed similar feelings of gratitude and relief. Bella August Renion said, "Glad she was found," while William Timentwa remarked, "Must be One Tough Woman. Thankful she was found!"

Atkins’ disappearance had drawn significant attention and concern from the community. She was last seen wearing a black sweater, blue jeans or sweatpants, and a colorful tank top. The search efforts were intense, but temporarily suspended, with plans to resume in a larger coordinated effort if necessary.

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office have been instrumental in the search and recovery efforts. The Yakama Tribal Police also played a crucial role in coordinating with local authorities.

Tom E Mullen expressed his joy on Facebook, saying, "Very happy for you and glad she is okay." Similarly, Renee Davis posted, "Glad she found and safe," and Alicia Rae Hernandez shared, "I cried happy tears idk her but I’m glad the creator protected her."

Victoria Atkins’ safe recovery brings immense relief to her family, friends, and the community. The support and prayers from everyone have been invaluable during this challenging time.
