Wayne Township, Indiana – The community of Wayne Township is mourning the loss of Rod Lambert, a beloved firefighter who passed away on the morning of August 10, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m. Rod Lambert, who had served with the Wayne Township Fire Department, spent nearly three decades confined to a wheelchair following a tragic accident in 1995 that critically injured him and claimed the life of his fellow firefighter, Ron Deer.
Despite the life-altering injuries he sustained, Rod remained deeply connected to the fire service, regularly visiting the Wayne Township fire stations. His determination and positive spirit were a constant source of inspiration to all who knew him. Rod’s unwavering commitment to the fire department and his infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impact on his colleagues and friends.
Jim Meacham, a close friend of Rod, shared his sorrow on Facebook, writing, "This morning I learned that my friend Rod Pruitt Lambert passed away. Although I know his pain and struggles are over, I’m comforted knowing he’s with our lord above and our brothers and sisters that have gone before us. Rod could have easily moved on from the fire service chapter of his life as he worked hard to recover. He did the exact opposite. Rod stayed close to it, embraced it, and I think that it embraced him back. I’ll forever cherish the visits, phone calls, and FB messages. Rest in Peace my Brother."
The loss of Rod Lambert has left many grieving in the community, with numerous people expressing their condolences and sharing memories on social media. Roberta Miller offered her support, saying, "I’m so sorry for your loss. Prayers are with you!" Tim Clifford, who was involved in the 1995 accident, expressed his deep sadness, stating, "Soooo sad, this truly breaks my heart. I was on the E2 accident and transported Ron… I cried like a baby that night and for several days afterwards. I’ll miss our brother Rod….rest easy hero."
Rod Lambert’s legacy is one of resilience, dedication, and a profound love for his community and the fire service. His passing is a significant loss for Wayne Township, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The community continues to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
