New Orleans, Louisiana – Mark Deane, a long-time sports producer for WGNO-TV, was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash on the Crescent City Connection on Friday morning. Deane, who was 49 years old, lost his life when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a Toyota Camry driven by 29-year-old Alberto Martinez-Sanchez.
The collision occurred when Martinez-Sanchez’s vehicle struck Deane’s motorcycle, causing it to become airborne and subsequently crash into a Nissan Rogue. Despite wearing a helmet, Deane died at the scene due to the severity of the crash.
Alberto Martinez-Sanchez has since been charged with negligent homicide in connection with Deane’s death. The tragic incident has left the WGNO community and Deane’s colleagues in deep mourning.
On Facebook, several individuals shared their thoughts on this tragic loss. Mike Daquin commented, "Killed by an illegal," sparking a conversation. Marty Muller responded to Daquin, stating, "There’s nothing in this article that says that he was in this country illegally but hey, if that’s what satisfies you, to each his own."
Muller further engaged with Daquin, remarking, "Wow, did you learn this bias from your days at Rummel?? Or did you forget to learn about compassion, love, and acceptance through Christ Our Lord??"
The death of Mark Deane marks a significant loss for WGNO and the broader New Orleans community. Deane was well-respected and had recently worked alongside sportscaster Ed Daniels, who also passed away earlier this month. The community continues to express their sorrow and condolences for Deane’s family during this difficult time.
