William (Bill) George Shippen of Danville, Kansas, Passes Away at 86, Community Mourns

William (Bill) George Shippen, a cherished member of the Danville, Kansas community, has passed away at the age of 86. Bill, born to William Henry and Francis M. Shippen, led a life rich in dedication, hard work, and community service, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by many.

Bill was a 1956 graduate of Danville High School and served in the Air Force for three years, stationed in Greenland. His early life was marked by active participation in the 4-H club, serving as an altar boy, and being a member of the FFA. These early experiences shaped his commitment to service, which he carried into his adult life.

Throughout his life, Bill wore many hats—he was a skilled welder, a salesman, a leatherworker, and a business owner who ran a guttering company for several years. His involvement in the community extended to his membership in St. Louis Parish in Waterloo, where he had been an active parishioner since 1970, and later, St. Patrick’s Parish while living at Wheatlands.

Bill is survived by his three daughters, Suzi Shippen, Terri Shippen, and Pattie Drake, as well as two sisters, Sr. Catherine Shippen and Harriett Fox. His family also includes seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will deeply miss him.

A rosary will be said for Bill at 7 PM on Friday, August 23, at Livingston Funeral Home. His funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, at St. Patrick’s Parish in Kingman, Kansas, with burial to follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Waterloo.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Bill’s name to the Ryan Grace Memorial, reflecting the continued impact of Bill’s life on those around him.

The outpouring of support from the community has been significant, with many expressing their condolences on social media. Denise Baker wrote, "Sending prayers to the family. I’m so sorry for your loss. RIP Bill!" Others, like Kimberly J Sterling-Ziegler, shared, "Thinking of the family, prayers for all." These sentiments echo the deep sense of loss felt by all who knew Bill.

Bill’s life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and hard work. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
