Albany, NY – On Thursday, August 15, 2024, a tragic series of events unfolded in Albany, leading to the death of 35-year-old Jordan Miklowitz of Schenectady, NY, who was identified as the primary suspect in the murders of his parents. The incident culminated in Miklowitz’s death after he jumped from the Patroon Island Bridge on I-90.
New York State Police were alerted around 4:00 p.m. to a report of a man threatening to jump from the bridge. Before officers could arrive, Miklowitz leaped to his death, landing on I-787 below. The highway’s northbound lanes were closed for nearly three and a half hours during the investigation, while southbound lanes were briefly halted.
Further investigation led troopers to Miklowitz’s residence on Morris Avenue in Schenectady, where they discovered the bodies of his parents, David Miklowitz, 75, and Kathryn Miklowitz, 73. Autopsies revealed that both had died from blunt force trauma, and their deaths have been classified as homicides.
Police have linked the two incidents, with Jordan Miklowitz being the primary suspect in the murders of his parents. According to statements made by Miklowitz before his death and other evidence collected at the scene, authorities believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The community has reacted strongly to the news, with various comments surfacing on social media. Sirena Sanders expressed her dismay at some of the comments circulating online, writing, “I’m sickened at some of the comments on here. Shame on you! There is family seeing this! This is so sad and mental illness is real.” Similarly, Dawn Dunham shared her heartfelt concern, stating, "I pray he has no siblings who have to see and read these comments. Healing prayers to them all if he does… This breaks my heart on many, many levels."
Kelly Wood-Linn offered a simple but poignant message, “May his parents rest in peace,” while Michelle Franklin Burton highlighted a troubling pattern in the region, noting, “This is the third time in 18 months that a ‘child’ has killed his parents in the Capital District.
