Warren, Vermont – The body of Tuan Baldino, a 35-year-old gym owner from Paramus, New Jersey, was recovered by Vermont State Police on Wednesday, August 14, after he went missing on August 10 while swimming in the Mad River near Warren Falls. The search and rescue operation, which spanned several days, involved multiple agencies and was hampered by hazardous water conditions, including swift currents and debris in the river.
Warren Falls, a popular but dangerous swimming spot, has been closed since Baldino was reported missing. The area is expected to remain closed at least through August 15 due to the continued risk posed by debris and the potential for hazardous conditions, as stated by Vermont State Police spokesperson Adam Silverman.
Baldino’s body was located after a multi-day search, which included assistance from Stowe Mountain Rescue, the U.S. Forest Service, the Vermont Agency of Transportation, the Warren Department of Public Works, the Warren Fire Department, and E&S Transport. His body has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy, which will confirm his identity. Authorities have stated that Baldino’s death does not appear to be suspicious.
The tragic incident has drawn attention to the dangers of swimming at Warren Falls, with locals sharing their concerns on social media. Vicki Brooker, a Warren resident, commented, "I grew up in Warren and this is why I, and most of my friends, were not allowed to swim at Warren Falls when I was a teenager. It’s dangerous. People drown here on a regular basis."
Another local, Corinne Moulton, who has lived across from the Falls for over 50 years, disputed the frequency of drownings, stating, "The only deaths from drowning in the Falls is 2. You should do better investigating before stating these so-called facts."
Tuan Baldino, remembered by his community as a dedicated gym owner and personal trainer, had owned Fitness Gainz Academy in Emerson and was known for his work at various gyms in the area. He held degrees in psychology and exercise science, having graduated from Kean University and Bergen Community College, respectively.
The Warren community and those who knew Baldino are mourning his loss, as authorities continue to urge caution for anyone considering visiting the area.
